Hello Friends and Family,
I am reading a biography of Lin and Larry Pardey. For those non boat people out there the Pardeys are among the top voyaging authors in the US with a dozen books and hundreds of articles to their credit. They have spoken before hundreds of thousands of sailors for half a century. I attended a seminar of theirs in the early ‘80’s. Unfortunately Larry passed away recently after a long illness. Lin in her late 70’s continues to speak and write.
The Pardey’s built from scratch 2 wooden sailboats and sailed each of them 100’s of thousands of miles circumnavigating twice, once the “wrong way” (East to West) and around the Horn when in their 60’s, an incredible undertaking.
Their boats had NO engines, electronics, electricity, or plumbing but were works of art. The first was 24’ the second 30’. I was under contract to buy the same boat design and construction type as their second boat, unfortunately the buyer of my boat flaked at the last moment and I had to withdraw my purchase offer.
When the Pardey’s were asked what their favorite passage was of all those taken around the world their response was:
“The near mystical 2500 mile voyage from Mexico to the Marquess Islands”*

*their passage was shorter than mine because they left from an island group about 800 miles South of Ensenada. Nuku-Hiva is in the Marquess Islands.
